On Wednesday March 30, ASA will be having a general body meeting for its members. We will be discussing portrayals of Africa in the media and African representation in media and the arts. We will also give more information about elections and the upcoming film Festival. The meeting will be in Danforth University Center Room 239 at 5:00pm. | Each year, the Program in African & African American Studies, Film & Media Studies and the African Students Association partner to present the African Film Festival to the Washington University and larger Saint Louis communities. The festival takes place in Brown Hall 100 fro Friday April 1-Sunday April 3rd. Showings begin at 7:00pm, with a special youth matinee held on Saturday at 3:00pm. #FeesMustFall is a student led protest movement that began in mid October 2015 in response to an increase in fees at South African universities. What is the status of the movement today? How have these protests impacted South African students and the country at large? How does #FeesMustFall connect to #BlackLivesMatter? Discuss all this and more on Tuesday March 8th in a roundtable discussion led by Dr. Jordache Ellapen, a postdoctoral fellow in the Program in African and African-American Studies! The discussion will take place in Danforth University Center room 276 at 5:00 PM. Everyone is welcome! Once again, ASA presents a night of style, music, and culture!
On Friday, February 26 at 7:00 pm, student models will be showcasing the unique clothing from various African nations. Hosted by seasoned emcees Christine Mbawke and Eddie Mungai, the event is sure to be full of excitement and energy. Local dance company Pinx Academy of Dance will provide entertainment in the form of West African dancing and live drumming! The event will be held in Danforth University Center (6475 Forsyth Ave.) Tisch Commons and is open to students and the public. We hope to see everyone there! Africa Week 2015 is rapidly approaching! It will be November 2nd through 7th with a theme that highlights Maguezi: The Faces of Our New Generation, in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Washu's ASA.
